2. WORK IS MADE OF FAIL. Seriously now. I should not be awake at 3.07am, but I am. And I have to be back at work in far too few hours, rewriting an entire paper again. After I left at about 1am. D: D: HORRORS.

3. GOOD THING MY FANDOMS MAKE UP FOR THE LOUSY. OMG seriously there has been SOOO much random lollerskating/random flailworthiness involved in my fandoms over the last couple of days:

a. It was just Meryl's 60th birthday on June 22! :) I missed it, because I suck big time, but [info]girlie_girl_23 didn't and her lovely tribute is here.

b. Next To Normal: The Abridged Script <-- omg I howled laughing at this, especially the way ALICE RIPLEY always and only refers to herself in the third person as ALICE RIPLEY, and Bobby, poor guy. *weeps*

c. Random thought: Alice is actual going to be bereft when her FB account reaches its maximum number of users, isn't she...!? And that's coming up soon, she just needs, like, 2,000 more people...

d. Official site for Julia's upcoming show - the Cy Coleman revue. She is looking classy. David's goatee, on the other hand, amuses me far more than it really should. So who's going to see this, other than Not Me?

e. OMG the Wonderettes universe is going to expand! - I swear I flailed when I got that google alert: now we get the story from the point of view of the Crooning Crabcakes! I'm hoping it includes - other than Billy Ray - Johnny and Richie as well, so there'll be shout-outs to my Wonderettes. ♥

f. And as a perfect example of how my life is full of random lollerskaty flail, guess what show's coming to Singapore in August? CLEARLY I would rather be watching Beth in this show in Aspen (OH GOD I WANT TO GO SO BADLY), but I guess I can make do with a local production of Spelling Bee. SO RANDOM A COINCIDENCE, AMIRITE?? It's the last show I thought would get a run here, just because it's not well-known at all (usually we get Phantom or Les Miz or some such well-worn chestnut of a show, ad nauseum).

g. Also, I got this comment on one of my random House!flail posts and was ridiculously amused. I can't decide if poster was being sarcastic, LOL.

4. Also, I think I am legit insane. Today I decided to embark on a flail project of complete insanity. OMG. Details... at some later point. XD BUT THE PROSPECT OF IT EXCITES ME.

5. How is it that I am wide awake NOW, when I am flailing, but will be half-dead when I'm at work, trying to work? Urgh. I PROMISE TO CATCH UP ON COMMENTS SOMETIME IN THIS MILLENNIUM.

1. URM. FOUR DAYS. Just four days more, guys - this time, in four days, I will literally be boarding the plane for Qatar New York. OMG. I can't... even BEGIN to process this, it doesn't feel real at ALL. I mean, I have tickets for most of my first week of shows, and at least half of the second week, and I've been planning this for a while. STILL. NOT GOING TO BELIEVE IT, as usual, until I'm actually THERE.

2. In other news, longest, laziest weekend I've had in AGES. We had a full three days off thanks to Labour Day (May 1) falling on a Friday. I had SOME grand plans of catching up on tv (god knows my flist is going to explode when the next House episode airs, and I am FIVE MONTHS BEHIND), or do something a little more productive... and yet, I spent most of it asleep and being lazy. Truth be told, I actually kind of like the sound of that. XD

3. Friday was family day - lunch out for my brother's birthday, at a fancy Chinese restaurant where basically we proved that, genetically, we all have a song playing in our heads at any given moment. Seriously we all just kept... humming out loud during the meal, while scoffing down epic amounts of beef and cod and god knows what else. I came home and napped after that, as I had gone to bed at some ridiculous hour of the morning, and then out for dinner to my aunt's place again. She's doing better after her second round of chemo, not having quite as bad a reaction to it as the first round, so ♥. Then I came home and... spent the entire night flailing at [info]weazel_luv over Wonderettes. GOD KNOWS WHY. (I AM SEEING IT WITHIN THE WEEK, GUYS. ASFHALFHLSDHFLSDHFLSD.)

4. Saturday: I had plans to go for yoga, which were completely thwarted when I got up at 3.30pm (sigh). Instead, I watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which I actually REALLY liked. I know it's been critically savaged, for the most part, but I loooved it. Turns out I'm just a huge X-Men/Marvel fandork, I guess, because I just... had the best time settling back into that universe, watching all the characters I love pop up in flesh, blood and celluloid, and... it was just FUN. (I also loved X3: The Last Stand, so yeah, I really am just a huge nerd with really poor taste in movies. I'm not apologising though, these movies make me happy!) I am a sucker, apparently, even for not-entirely-well-wrought romance, and bought into the Silver Fox thing by the end. URGH, ME. No spoilers, however. Let us, for a minute, discuss the masculine pulchritude on display in that movie. ZOMG HUGH. JACKMAN. When I saw the trailer, I KNEW the movie could have been an absolutely god-awful pile of steaming manure and I'd have loved it anyway just because Hugh gets to run all over the screen being sexy and hot and growly omg omg. And that he did, in epic amounts. What surprised me is that I also found Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool ridiculously sexy. SHUT UP. In his six minutes of screen-time, he didn't even bare these, but I was still done. OMG HOTNESS. Now I have to go watch Definitely, Maybe again. I did NOT, however, like whoever played Gambit. Taylor whatever or somesuch? Urgh. Not that Gambit's one of my favourite characters, but... it just didn't work for me. He wasn't anywhere near charismatic enough.

5. During the movie, I had the insanely pressing URGE to delve back into the comics again - now, try to believe me when I say that I really AM far from being the biggest comics dork around. I don't think anyone really believes me, do they? )

6. AFTER the movie, to get back to my weekend - I went to a colleague's house for an awesome potluck dinner. ♥ He made chili and corn on the cob, other people brought corn muffins, mashed potatoes, ice cream (I contributed some not-so-great salad that wasn't popular anyway with all the OTHER things on the table), and it was just fun to sit around chatting about... movies, work, anything, everything. Honestly the people I work with are about the only reason I haven't lost my fragile grip on sanity in the past six and a half years I've been at this job. And it's been FAR too long since we had one of these chat sessions, so that was good!

7. Then, on Sunday, I managed to get up in time for my 2pm yoga class: which, although it was the easiest of the easy classes, I almost died in. GOD. I have not been back in weeks, because I've been lazy and the thought of inflicting pain on my really just completely inflexible body didn't appeal. So, being out of practice, that - predictably - became a self-fulfilling prophecy. A+, me. I'm already sore, and am going to hurt like the DICKENS tomorrow. In fact, I was apparently so tired I went for lunch, came home, and SLEPT FOR FOUR HOURS. Straight through dinner on a worknight. EPIC FAIL. That now means, of course, that it's 2.46am and I am WIDE AWAKE. AUUUGGGH.

8. ALSO, YOUTUBE LOOP. AIEEEEEE. Chiefly, there was Alice and Emily belting their faces off in I Will Never Leave You, one of the few times I've SEEN them sing that song unattached at the hip. YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT, GUYS: can we say omigod sexy SASSY belting times a million. 2:31 is legit an ORGASMIC EXPERIENCE, when they belt in opposite directions but sound PERFECTLY in sync, omigod. (ETA: OMG, 0:55!!! How. Cute?!) Then I found Bebe videos, and although she really doesn't have the best voice on her, god I LOVE her sass. She's SUCH a killer Velma, and probably the only person I'd want to see in the role over Julia (that's right, REPLACE IN CHICAGO, JULIA, PLZ). And yay, Bebe singing from Cabaret! I LOVE her line readings more than anything else. Mmmm, dripping with sarcasm and sass. I heart you, Lilith Bebe. ;)

9. And, because apparently this isn't already epic long enough, I figured I should get started on my alphabet meme, or I won't be done by the time I hit NY. 10. OMIGOD THAT TOOK FOREVER. Wow, I am going to have to seriously cut down on the time I spend on the next 21 letters or I am going to die. D: I shall now attempt to go to bed at 3.47am even though I'm WIDE AWAKE (damn the nap) and hungry (no dinner). Blaaarrrgh.

1. Why so spammy, me? I apologise for posting so often in the past day or so. Blame it on my fandoms constantly providing me with awesome over which I feel I MUST flail. Surely you guys don't blame me for it? ;)

3. God, I hadn't realised HOW tired I was after work today. I was supposed to dash out for a facial before meeting [info]noldoparma after her dinner, but that didn't work out and I was spurned by my facial-doing person. (What is the proper noun to describe the occupation of giving facials anyway? Facialist? because that sounds WEIRD.) I went home and briefly contemplated going for a short jog in between, but instead... fell dead asleep for a much-needed nap.

4. Dinner after at House, one of our favourite haunts. Since J had eaten already, she left me to demolish most of our late dinner - a metre-long chicken sausage (no lie, it really turned out to be that long!) on a bed of rocket leaves; TRUFFLE FRIES (this is something of a tradition for us, apparently), and eggplant salad. Lemon tart to finish, OM NOM NOM.

5. And now I must sleep. Busy day tomorrow - Watchmen, tea with K, N's birthday bash at night... I WANT to do yoga or some such exercisey thing at some point, but have no idea at what point that will/can happen.

6. HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND, EVERYBODY. I'm going to enjoy mine... until I have to go back to work on Sunday. D:

1. It's almost Christmas! I feel like I should have uploaded music for everybody - in fact, I probably WILL get around to doing that tomorrow, as a kind of Christmas eve celebration of awesome. I'm a bit lazy to do that tonight though.

2. Mainly because I am currently RIDICULOUSLY excited to be seeing Next To Normal in a few weeks' time. This interview with the incomparable Alice Ripley popped up on my Google alerts and pretty much made my evening. She talked about so many things! The new production, Side Show, her upcoming DC show (which I would so go for if I weren't going to see A Little Night Music in NYC instead...) plus, she fangirls Brian. A+, Alice, I approve. XD

4. Oh wait, I lied about not having anything else to flail/ramble on about. I think know I've been horrifically remiss in flailing about Julia's November Joe's Pub concert. Mainly because I was overseas at the time, and then other fandoms got in the way, and well, I suck. So I decided today to just listen to the concert all the way through at work. Good god almighty. GUYS. I've flailed about it before. I KNOW I have. But if you trust my taste at all (and dudes, if you're STILL reading my LJ after this time, you must to a certain extent, right?), you HAVE to listen to Julia sing Sara Bareilles' Gravity, because it is ASTOUNDING. Does anyone have good to okay photos of this concert? I neeeeed to make album art for my iPod, and I can't remember where (or even if?) I saw good photos from this.

6. Oh god, HOLY BELTING OF AWESOME, ALICE.

7. Christmas Eve celebrations at work tomorrow - which means epic amounts of food and no work done, which is aces in my book. I'm due to take care of my cousin in the afternoon, as his parents are only returning from Japan at midnight. I shall take him out for lunch (if I can still eat after inhaling turkey at work) and watch Bedtime Stories. WUT, NO JUDGING. I don't think I can convince my cousin to come watch me weep over Hugh Jackman's sexiness in Australia for three hours straight. So Adam Sandler it'll have to be...

8. I think I'll... go and watch some more 30 Rock now. I watched the Seinfeld episode from Season 2 just now and died of LOL. OMIGOD TINA. She is almost criminally adorable. Also, my disturbing crush on Alec Baldwin continues. I think I should just go with the flow. Also the ship, because eek. Jack/Liz!! XD

9. I'm still downloading music, in between distractions. You guys are all AMAZING. Fanmixes to follow - probably as massive Christmas gifts to the flist. :D

1. I don't know WHAT time zone I'm living on anymore. Maybe on NYC time - because it's 11.39am right now and I haven't been to bed yet. O_O

2. That being said, I stumbled home yesterday after work and switched on my computer... but couldn't stay upright. I crashed in bed at 1pm and got up at just after 7pm. Craziness. Tried and failed to go for yoga, and instead met [info]noldoparma for another marathon bitching session about the crappiness of our jobs. *sigh*

3. I've since spent the last... errrr, ten hours or something fangirling 9 to 5. It is wrong, very very very wrong, to like a musical this much while it's still in its OUT-OF-TOWN TRYOUTS. I know this. And yet I cannot help myself. I've made a shit-ton of icons that I've posted to commemorate opening night. ARGH. I WISH I COULD SEE THIS SHOW.

4. Speaking of shows I wish I could see? FOLKS IN NYC. TOM KITT IS GIVING A CONCERT WITH HIS FRIENDS - BY WHICH I MEAN ALICE, JULIA AND ALSO AARON TVEIT. October 6 at 11.30pm at Joe's Pub (see here). I'm hyper-excited about this, because it means, YAY, TOM KITT. I HEART TOM KITT. Also, Alice singing N2N songs, and maybe Julia will sing She Goes again! OMG. How incredible would that be?! And why don't I live in NYC yet, dammit? *cries* (Thanks for the heads-up, Beth!)

5. I plan to spend this weekend recovering from the last week of epic fail by just flailing quietly at home... well, mostly anyway. I'll stay in and watch House and Evita today, and I'm going to see Mamma Mia again tomorrow! \o/

1. Omigod. I left work at 2.30 in the morning. I am made of so so so much LOSE. But at least... well, I'm trying anyway... to not go into work this weekend. Surely I can do it?! That was the POINT of staying until 2.30am!! Bah. My work life is about to embark upon an ever more terrifying downward spiral over the next few weeks. I know it. *weeps* I shall try my best to maintain my weekends for flail.

2. Not that I don't flail at work. Because, hai, I think I'm done for - I flailed all day at the prospect of what I'm pretty sure is a NEW OBSESSION.

Hai. I really really need to be watching this right now. *weeps* It looks like it could be SO MUCH fun! Now I have to go hunt down all those promo videos that've already been put up and watch them over and over again. Until, like, it opens on Broadway in March/April NEXT YEAR and I bankrupt myself to go up AGAIN and see it. Argh!!

4. Also, I was alerted to this by [info]theroomstops: audio clips of Kristin Chenoweth's upcoming Christmas album are up on her official site! Yay! My favourites are her versions of What A Wonderful World, The Christmas Waltz and Do I Hear What I Hear. Oh god, how is it not October already?!?

5. It's the Mid-Autumn Festival in Singapore (and across Asia) right now. I don't eat mooncakes - just don't like the taste - but it's always nice to see people wandering the streets with paper lanterns. (I always wonder what would happen if your lantern catches fire. That would be quite sad, no?) Maybe I'll actually see them this year as I do intend to be out having dinner both nights this weekend rather than holed up at work or in front of the computer. ;)

6. The scab on my knee has dried up! It doesn't hurt! And hopefully won't bleed! I'm hoping to get back to yoga or something, maybe on Sunday. :D

7. Oh god, my alarm clock for a normal work day JUST WENT OFF. FAIL, ME, FAIL. I owe people other memes that I was going to do, but no. I MUST GO TO BED, ARGH.

1. FUCK YOU WINDOWS. Do not ever ever shut down on me again so you can install updates without FIRST WARNING ME THAT YOU PLAN TO DO SO. WTF. I was making icons! Okay fine, ONE icon, but still. GRRRRR.

2. It's way freakin' crazy-late now - 3.29am, if anyone cared or would be surprised anymore by the hours I keep - so I'm going to have to ignore the comments and fun posts that have popped up in the last hour. :(

3. I just needed to post about two things. First. I LOVE ALICE. Her concert at Joe's Pub on Monday is one of the best I've ever listened to, and OMG, so many new songs I've not heard her perform live. Her voice is just... ARGH. Can we say crazy crazy CRAZY amounts of love for Alice? Shine On, omigod, that song just makes me weep from its AMAZING. I'm so excited that I'll be seeing her in N2N next January. Just the prospect of that makes the reality of work survivable for the next... year? Argh.

4. Second, I had to share. Before Julia sang The Lowdown-Down at the LaChuisa benefit, she told a little story about the duelling Wild Parties of 2000. It's one of the funniest things I've heard in a long long while, and OMG. Julia tells a story like no one else - she's SO FUNNY. And her voice. AKSJDAKJDJASLDJALSDSA.


My favourite line? "And so they ate each other alive and died fiery deaths... Or DID THEY."
No, Julia isn't bitter at ALL about that troll under the bridge, hee.


5. Omigod, new Google alert. WTF IS THIS. Julia's participating in a private reading for a new musical? TOMORROW? ARGH. AWESOME. Please to be turning this into a permanent job in NYC, kthx.

6. Because I'm actually a 12-year-old boy, I'm excited - I'll be watching Stepbrothers after work tomorrow. Don't judge. I have lots and lots of wacky love for Will Ferrell. I'm just glad i managed to convince someone (i.e., my BOSS, LOL) to go see it with me. It'd have been sad to go and laugh by myself.

7. It's now 3.50am. FUCKITY. How am I going to function at work tomorrow? Answer: I'm not. :P

8. Edited to add. STUPID KNEE. It's been ten days of not doing anything remotely active, and it still refuses to heal properly. It doesn't hurt anymore, so I thought I'd kneel on it to see if I could get back to doing yoga - I knelt on my bed, got up and was, like, what's that pink spot on the sheet? Tried again - another pink spot. Damn scab still hasn't healed properly and is still bleeding! WTF WTF!!! URGH.

1. Argh, my curiosity got the better of me, and I promised [info]mirime that I would do this mysterious meme she did that somehow included me as one of her answers - but I can't for the life of me answer some of the questions. FAIL. I APOLOGISE. I'll scout down another meme tomorrow and do it in repentance. ;)

2. Hai, Alice Ripley kicks epic amounts of ass. This is a Fact Of Life. Her entire performance at The After Party last week is up on Youtube, so go hunting. This one's my favourite - Alice belting the crap out of Rainbow High from Evita, yay! (And no, I don't listen to Alice and Julia singing the same song on a loop. I DON'T. Well, not yet, anyway...)



3. Ace is such a fun show. I loved the demo when I finally put it on a CD and listened to it in my car a few months back - and whee, the production in DC sounds great! I'd love to be able to see this live. Emily Skinner is excellent, of course, and Jill Paice does a good job as Elizabeth. Plus, bonus: I'd totally forgotten that Julia sang on Missing Pieces in the demo - I love rediscovering old songs!

4. Okay so this is pretty much an entry centred around music flail - [info]medland asked for recommendations and for once I actually didn't pounce and force Julia down someone else's throat. Who's up for some awesome Chinese pop music? JAY CHOU = FTW. Follow the cut! )

1. I had NO IDEA how frickin' tired I've been over the past week - apparently sleeping 3-4 hours a night while still trying to be a semi-functioning human being at work isn't a good idea - until I got home early this morning. I ended up going straight to bed at 4 in the morning or so, and waking up about 13 and a half hours later. At 5.30pm. WTF.

3. At least it was a fun time out last night - I went out for a HUGE Japanese buffet dinner with [info]noldoparma and C, to this awesome restaurant in Greenwood that basically gives you as much sashimi as you could ask for, for just over $70. Which is a freakin' amazing deal and SO WORTH IT. It's fun to eat with people who can eat as much as I can and ENJOY IT, so yay! Honestly we scared other patrons away with the amount of food we kept ordering and then inhaling - it was nuts. Wasabi and pitan tofu = MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF LOVE. I think the waiter there recognises me now. *ahem*

4. Then we watched the new Mummy movie, which was the randomest thing to ever random. For serious. Weirdass movie, which was surprisingly fun because it clearly had decided it didn't care about having a plot or being in any way logical. Whatever works for it, I guess. Basically my only takeaway from the show, other than the fact that Michelle Yeoh speaks truly shitty Chinese and has not improved one iota since Crouching Tiger, is that I have this inexplicable liking for Brendan Fraser. WTF. I can't explain it, really, but there it is. He's not movie-star handsome and not hideous, but he has this totally goofy, oddball charm that makes him just... IDK, so adorable. I'm kind of excited to be seeing him in the Inkheart movies now. :D

5. I sent [info]noldoparma home after that, and decided to head up to her place to grab some book!crack, since I'm on a kids' fantasy kick. We wound up sitting around in her room chatting for 2.5 hours. Talking about everything and anything in between - JD Robb (wut, now I have to read this series, LOL), American politics and goodness knows what else. Good times - what am I going to do at work when you guys leave, I ask again? I have NO IDEA.

6. I'm due at dinner in 15 minutes. I have neither showered nor budged from the computer. Punctuality is so not gonna happen.

7. However, fandom flailing is. OMG, DHP IN A NEW PLAY. Opens late April. I guess the trip to NYC in May will have to go ahead after all? Then I can watch this AND 9 To 5? *sobs* Too much awesome.

8. Also, I know you've all probably seen this already, but quite a few of you might not have. And I have to share it for the awesome that is Eden Espinosa and Tracie Thoms singing Take Me Or Leave Me live. :D OMG. I wish I could see this FINAL Broadway cast do Rent live. Still bummed that I missed Eden in June. :(


9. Since I'm never going to be able to sleep at a normal hour tonight, I think I shall go watch XF2 again. Midnight screening ftw. :D

10. And one last random thing - you know why I love Alice Ripley? Because, at the end of her 2003 Kennedy Centre concert, she very adorably says, "I heart the Kennedy Centre". Yes, I heart the Kennedy Centre. Hee. Oh Alice. (Thanks for pointing that out, [info]weazel_luv. It's not like we listen to these audios too much, NOT AT ALL.)

2. I stole a meme from [info]lanafromoz, because I felt like it. :D LJ meme )

3. My flail over Alice Ripley and Next To Normal continues to grow in leaps and bounds. I've been... stalking [info]smokeline (to her knowledge, it's okay, I'm not crazy!), and just found it insanely adorable how Alice had a bubble-letters phase when she was signing people's playbills at the N2N stagedoor. 6. And I forgot to add. I watched Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog yesterday but could not FLAIL because I'd just posted. NOW I CAN. OMG OMG. NATHAN FILLION AND NEIL PATRICK HARRIS. ILTHEM. They were freakin' HILARIOUS. (Felicia Day, I'm afraid, not so much. Did not like her voice. Not that Nathan could really SING either, but he played his part SO well, LOL.) Now I have to go and finish watching Desperate Housewives just so I can get more Nathan.

7. I've been quite spammy enough today, no? I was going to upload audio examples of Sherie Rene Scott proving INCONTROVERTIBLY that she is the most kickass thing about the Little Mermaid as a musical, but that can wait for another day. ;)

8. Oh also. Went for a run - half an hour, well done me! - and then chicken rice dinner. The chicken rice is inordinately expensive (like, five times as much as you'd pay in a hawker centre or food court) but wtf, it was SO YUMMY. Plus the restaurant has now moved to the 38th floor of the hotel, so there's a GORGEOUS view of Singapore town from way up high. Nice. :D

1. So. I've seen The Dark Knight. Beware of spoilers beneath the cut (though I've deliberately kept them pretty vague, IMHO, so no plot points are touched on that you won't already know from the trailer - at least they won't affect your enjoyment of the show, I think). However, there is one thing that can safely be said spoiler-free:



Frick. Frackity. FRACK. Heath Ledger was ah-mazing. I already knew from the trailer that this would be a kickass performance to end all kickass performances - well, it was that and more. He was terrifying (which was the point), and just simply... incredible. Menacing, evil, and altogether different from when you've ever seen Heath before. Un-friggin'-believable is what he was.

2. What other movie would we be foolhardy enough to open the same weekend as this blockbuster? Why, that would be Mamma Mia, of course. I won't be able to watch this for another two months because my country is made of too much fail for words. But there are pretty PRETTY promo pictures! Involving lots of half-naked men, LOL.

6. Eek! Ace is going to be staged and possibly head to Broadway! I LOVE the demo that I have, and it looks like Jill Paice will be singing Julia Murney's part. Sweet. Of course, the news that Emily Skinner might also be involved has me VERY intrigued to see whether this show can make it big.

7. OMFG. EMMY NOMINATIONS FOR LEE PACE AND KRISTIN CHENOWETH. YEEES. WELL DONE, EMMYS, for all the PD love. Because, OMFG, you frickin' left ROBERT SEAN LEONARD off your best supporting actor list. NO LOVE FOR YOU BECAUSE OF THAT. (Edited to add: here's a video of Cheno announcing the Emmy nominees alongside Neil Patrick Harris. It's adorable how she can't stop talking, LOL. 1. So yesterday, there was musical news of awesome FLAIL with 9 to 5. Today, my brain exploded from FAIL. Because news popped up on Playbill about Sir Andrew I'm-Completely-Crazy Lloyd Webber's sequel to Phantom - which is called, in a completely sad and dodgy way, Phantom: Once Upon Another Time. *weeps*

"The Phantom, having fled Paris, is running a freak show. At night, he crawls into his lair and makes love to an automaton that looks like Christine. Christine, meanwhile, has become a famous opera singer. But she's fallen on hard times because her husband, Raoul, has squandered their fortune. So she's accepted a high-paying gig from a mysterious impresario to open a new amusement park. On her first night in New York, she draws back the curtain in her hotel suite and comes face to face with her new employer — flash of lightning, crash of chords — the Phantom! WTF KIND OF FAILCAKES SUMMARY FOR A FIRST ACT IS THIS. OMFG. IT READS LIKE A BAD BAD BAD  BAD FANFIC. An automaton that looks like Christine?! (i.e., A SEX PUPPET?!) A mysterious impresario with flash of lightning and crash of chords? PLUS a pregnancy!? OH GOD. I think the world might end when Sir Andrew finishes work on this... I would be laughing, if I weren't so horrified.

2. HAI Brian d'Arcy James & Gershwin = LOVE. British accent ftw. Plus voice of sex. SEX. Even though the audio isn't that great and this musical has the most nonsensical book in the world. Whatever. It's Brian singing awesome. (Side-rant: Why, in heavens' name, would people go to the trouble of tracking an entire show but NOT labelling the tracks at all?! This person split it right down to dialogue bits in between songs, but... NO NAMES. So I have to do it myself. Bah.) Fun times regardless. I'll do anything for new Gershwin music. And Brian, apparently. (EEEK. GITA AND THE POLISH ACCENT, LMAO.)

1. Hai, so I have essentially had breakfast - cereal - and it's now 7am. Except, DUH, I haven't gone to bed yet. Fail fail. Same goes for yesterday. It was a bit ridiculous, in fact, because I went to sleep at almost 9am and then got woken up by a phone call at quarter past. I DID think it felt like a ridiculously short time to be asleep... no wonder! It was a call from my boss, suggesting that I might want to go back to work for the day. Sigh. I sort of mumbled yes and fell asleep again, fully intending to just do so for an hour. That didn't work, of course, and next thing I knew it was almost 1pm and said boss had called back to say that all the work was done. (GOOD.)

2. So I took [info]mirime out for Japanese at J8, came home and slept until dinner time - which was a crab dinner for everyone except me, as I was lazy and didn't feel like working my way through a crab pincer just to get at the (admittedly abundant) meat therein.

3. Spent the better part of a night trying to track an audio and not getting much out of it. I swear - if musical theatre EVER goes the route of the recent Tommy production in LA (piped into headphones), I might have to kill myself. Because even Alice freakin' Ripley couldn't sing above the orchestra, a lot of the time. *grumpy* I sure hope it sounded better live, because this audio occasionally makes me very very sad indeed.

4. I also be newly addicted, I think, to Elisabeth. *eek* This is all ENTIRELY [info]lfae's fault. I've been listening to Wenn ich tanzen will (a song of epic epic AMAZINGNESS) a LOT since she introduced it to me a few weeks back. But it's suddenly hit me: I want MOAR. Check out its awesome:

Great, musical theatre is EVIL. Now I want to learn German. Anyway. I have SOME Elisabeth crack just now - an audio recorded on Pia's birthday, and also the Elisabeth (Essen) cast recording. I'm asking the two crazy Elisabeth fans on my flist - Sal and [info]sepulchralice - for help. Do you guys have the full English demo of Elisabeth? (Cat: a subtitled DVD?? *I say hopefully*) More Pia crack?

5. And I think that XF2 DOES indeed open here on 24 July, based on the 'coming soon' info on one of our local cinema websites. YAAAAAAY!! No waiting an extra week to flail!! ♥

1. OMG OMG OMG TWO. DAYS. TO. GO. All flaily now. All flaily.

2. And there are so many things to do still! I really have to figure out my camera, for one thing, and pick up my new glasses, and go shopping - but these are all GOOD THINGS. In two days I'll be on the plane to London! FLAIL. :D At least today I managed to get my money changed.

3. I snagged a music meme from [info]vertical_chaos, so this entry won't seem quite so bare.


4. Oh, other random thing! I'm not even done with this upcoming June trip, and have already booked another impromptu weekend trip up to Malaysia in July. WTF WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? (Oh yes, the EPIC JOB OF FAIL. At least it's good for SOMETHING.) But, YES. THE WEEKEND THE XF2 IS SUPPOSED TO OPEN WORLDWIDE. I sure hope it opens on July 25, because I'd watch it before taking off for Malaysia - but I have to go for the concert! It's only one of my favourite female Chinese pop singers (Winnie Hsin)! And she'll NEVER have a concert here, EVER, because she doesn't have a following at all in this stupid country. (More's the pity.) So I managed to find another friend as crazy as me, and we've since booked plane tickets and a hotel room and everything. The lengths I will go to be a fangirl, OMG. O_O At least we'll get to go up there and stuff our faces with the awesome char siew pork in Bukit Bintang - mmm, laden with fat and caramelised within an inch of its life - and... erm, buy illegal DVDs. *looks around furtively*

1. EIGHT. DAYS. TO. GO. How can this flail be contained! And I've discovered that the prospect of this trip is doing wonders for my ability to just be all Teflon-like and allow shitty working hours and other random annoying things to slide off my back more easily than they otherwise would. I CAN'T WAIT.

2. Had a rather sobering experience today, however. My godmother - I'm not religious in the least, but my mom had recruited godparents for all the kids in the family to take care of us in case something happened to our parents - has been suffering from cancer for the better part of the last few years. She's been an amazing trooper: every time she's licked it in one part of her body, it returns somewhere else, and now she's back in ICU for another bout of chemo. Visited her with my (extremely tardy) younger brother tonight, and it was... terrible. She'd lost so much weight since I last saw her, which can't have been more than three or four weeks ago. And really, I can't imagine doing what she does - getting up after being knocked down so many times, and still she's fighting with every breath she's got. Gah. Amazing.

3. It's at times like this that I wonder - why am I doing, well, anything that I don't really want to do? Life's too short. Even if I crash and burn doing something stupid but which makes me happy... better to have crashed and burnt than stayed safe indoors, no? Sigh.

4. Onward to happier things: I have a Friday 5 for you guys today! And be proud, I've managed to whittle it down to two Julia songs out of five, as opposed to four last time. :p And hey, if you're wondering, isn't it still Thursday? NO. It's 1.06am here and I've been itching to spam everyone with these songs for a week now, at least. ;) Plus, you guys get ready-to-play samples AND downloads! :D

1. WHY DOES THE BEST CRACK ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN I AM AT WORK OR ASLEEP, ASKJDLDJASLDJLSJDLASA. Seriously. I went to bed for, like, just FOUR HOURS. When I got up again, flist had EXPLODED. EVEN MORE SO THAN AFTER SWEETSAUCE (WHATEVER THAT MEANS LOL!). Understandably though, for you see, I know all about the super-sexy House promos - the pictures at least, though not the tv promo (yet) - and I am ALL SPOILED FOR THOSE, AND ALL FLAILY. I COULD LITERALLY DIE FROM THE AWESOME. BECAUSE OMG HOW PRETTY AND HOW SEXY AND HOW ASDKSJALJDLJASDLAS ARE THOSE?!? FINALLY WE HAVE CUDDY IN PROMOS AND ISN'T SHE BLOODY GORGEOUS. PLUS THAT PROMO. WTF. W. T. F. KIND OF AWESOME IS THAT. I am, however, two episodes behind so am NOT leaping into any massive flail sessions for fear of being spoiled on plot points before I can see the episodes myself tomorrow.

2. It's good to have the fandom back though. Man. You guys have been going NUTS on my flist, lol. And I LOVE IT.

3. Work was made of FAIL today. Though when is it not. My boss was, as usual, full of inspirational win. I AM NOT BEING SARCASTIC AT ALL. </sarcasm> Okay. I shall NOT bitch though. Shall NOT.

4. ELTON!! YAY for Elton concert!! It was amazing - he played for a solid two and a half hours, no costume changes, just sang and tinkled those ivories like his life depended on it, which was awesome. I was surprised at how LITTLE he bantered (I always imagined he'd be the kind who would toss out wisecracks every other song, you know?), and I have to be honest - he no longer has that falsetto of his. It was pretty obvious in parts, when he either let his band or the audience cover for the fact that he can't go all high like he used to be able to. (See Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.) But he covered for it pretty well, and he was otherwise in really GOOD voice. He opened the show by singing a batch of obscure songs that I suspect you'd only know if you were a hardcore Elton fan - which I'm not - but the concert REALLY picked up once he hit his stretch of epic singles. OMG. It was cracktastic. The audience did his work for him (he really didn't even TRY to get everyone out of their seats and hyper, they just were). Bopping around to Crocodile Rock or Bennie & The Jets? GOOD TIMES. I bring my favourite songs from the concert, which are pretty much some of my favourite Elton songs ever. 5. Funnily enough, I'm addicted to Alice Ripley's music. No big surprise there. But I just procured her songs with her band Ripley, and am AGAIN simply floored by her versatility. How does she switch from Broadway belting to folksy pop and punk rock? I DON'T KNOW, BUT SHE DOES, AND I LOVE HER FOR IT. I'm a little bit obsessed with her song Romeo now, but I can't for the life of me understand what she's singing at some points. AND GOOGLE HAS FAILED ME FOR ONCE. Anyone on the flist actually has lyrics? Or can help deaf ol' me decipher what Alice is singing? ;)

1. As usual, I be a lemming. Marching ever more steadily towards my death from sleep deprivation. JOIN ME. SLEEP IS OVER-RATED.

2. I FAIL AT WATCHING HOUSE. FAIL IN EVERY WAY. I haven't even watched last week's, for one thing, and was planning a double bill tonight after dinner. But my download took SUCH ages that by the time it downloaded - about an hour ago - I didn't have time for both if I wanted to live through tomorrow. So I can't see it... and I can't see it until Thursday (my time)! *CRIES* YOU MAY TELL ME HOW MUCH I FAIL. NO MORE SPOILERS BEYOND 'SWEETSAUCE', GUYS, LOL. ;) I swear, that word is everywhere on my flist today. Insanity!!

3. And the reason I can't watch House 'til much later? I'm going to Elton John's concert tomorrow night later today. Which is crappy timing, but I AM dorkily into Elton so I'm gonna just have to live with not watching new House for another day. Epic FAILURE. But! Let me know what your favourite Elton songs are, if you have any, and if my *ahem* recording works out, I'll upload tracks for everyone! I'll probably share anyway, if the boot comes off clearly enough.

This is one of the loveliest versions of Somewhere Over The Rainbow I've seen/heard in a long, long while...

1. OH GOD. Had plans to watch House, right? FAILED, OBVIOUSLY. I should never volunteer to do a meme, even on a day off from work when I have more time to spend online. Because that's pretty much what I did all night. I did manage to go for the slowest run in the history of the universe. But mostly I memed. Oh well, at least it was fun. ;) Go play if you want to, if you haven't already!

2. I SHALL WATCH HOUSE TOMORROW.

3. Oh you know what? My heterosexuality came back today! At least for a while. ;) I watched Iron Man, and OMG. What a fun fun fun movie. (Though don't trust just me on that, because I much preferred X-Men 3 to Superman Returns, which apparently makes me some kind of movie retard. WHATEVER. The X-Men rule. IMHO, and yes I DO read comics because I am a geek that way, Marvel pwns DC, kthx.) Um, anyway. Bias aside. I LOVE the fact that the movie didn't take itself seriously - many random moments of epic fail as Tony Stark tries to perfect his power-suit - but that, because it had Robert Downey Jr as its lead, the movie jsut turned out darker and a whole lot more awesome than it'd have been if, IDK, someone with less acting chops but more bankability or whatever took on the role instead. And now I can stop pretending to have intelligent thoughts. ROBERT DOWNEY JR. PHWOAR.
