1. HERE'S A NEWS FLASH: MY JOB = FULL OF SUCK. Well, okay, that's not a news flash, it's a friggin' sad fact of my life. But I'm pretty certain I'm never going to get to go home at a normal time again - not for the next week... make that month (year? decade?), anyway. I am very much not looking forward to having even less of a life than I already do. And yet that is what shall happen. Fuckity. I whipped out a four-page paper in a few hours (again earning my stupid boss' five-figure salary for her) and went home at 11.30pm and STILL I'm not done with the work I have to do.

2. Is it any wonder that I actually looked up my vacation quota for the rest of the year? *weeps* Turns out I have 30 days, if I use my FULL quota, accumulated over years of service. How tempted am I to go back to NYC, like, yesterday? Also, I am having a minor Twitter war with [info]curtains and [info]llyfrgell right now, and I want a New York bagel with cream cheese and [info]irnbruise has offered to buy me one if I go back! SURELY THE BEST REASON TO GO BACK TO NEW YORK EVER, Y/Y?!

3. Also, I super hardcore want to go back because [info]llyfrgell watched The Marvellous Wonderettes on Sunday and I flailed about it with her and am now missing the show MORE THAN EVER. I want to see it again SO badly, especially with the original cast, and I'm bummed that Farah is leaving in early March. SAD. :( BTW, new icon inspired by Meredith and [info]meepette - wtf, guys, I really did NOT make the pink & green connection until you pointed it out to me! How perfect is that, though. XD

4. I guess the one good thing about being made almost entirely of flail is that, no matter how depressing my work life can get (and trust me, it's heading in that direction as of today), my fandoms can and always WILL sustain me. SO MUCH AWESOME TODAY.

5. Julia's new hairstyle - or lack thereof - is worrying to me. She needs a hairbrush. Hair aside, however, she looks great in this interview for her Oklahoma production of Tommy. She talks about having been on SATC! XD And then she sings a bit from Tommy here. Again, I feel the need to reintroduce her to the concept of a hairbrush. But I think she is going to be FIERCE as Mrs Walker, who's with me?

6. Here is Reason #5,385 why Meryl Streep is better than you. You know, aside from the 15 Oscar nominations, her sass and her general awesome? She recently said in an interview that she needs to start recycling the expensive dresses she only wears to award shows - and she's gone and done just that: recycling a dress at the BAFTAs yesterday that she first wore thirty years ago, in 1979. WTH, SERIOUSLY. Way to make the rest of us feel like slovenly failures at life, Meryl. Unlike you, I'm going to look like this in thirty years, I know it.

7. The FLAILIEST thing I discovered today, however?? It's Emil-related, of course! I don't think it's FAIR, but his kids have inherited his musical ability - certainly his daughter Anya has a gorgeous voice (and is also gorgeous, which is good for her since, you know, her dad, bless his heart, really isn't). So I happened upon her Youtube channel, and she uploads videos of her singing duets with her dad while he plays the guitar. CUE MY BRAIN EXPLODING. Oh my god, seriously - they harmonise like crazy, and it's KICKASS, and they sound amazing AMAZING together. OMG OMG OMG OBSESSED. Plus they cover awesome English songs, like Two Of Us by the Beatles, and my personal favourite:

Falling Slowly - from Once the movie

SO. DAMN. BEAUTIFUL. ♥ ♥ ♥

8. Right, it's 3.45am. And it's not like I won't have a shit-ton of work to do tomorrow. I'm an idiot. Bedtime.

1. Happy birthday, [info]dividingday! Hope you have a marvellous day. :D

2. Dude, LJ, why are you so fucked up? What is with the seriously fugly and stripped-down posting/commenting options these days?

3. Omigod SO ILL. It's one of those maddeningly slow illnesses - the annoying creeper version rather than the kind that just explode all over you - so I woke up on Saturday (at 5pm, go me!) with a slightly worse cold and cough, my voice a little bit gone. Thankfully I didn't sniffle at all throughout the show (so my audio should be clean). And I get up this afternoon (surprisingly, at 1.30pm!) and I'm done: the snot is green, I'm sneezing, and ARGH.

4. I'm supposed to be meeting a friend of mine from uni (who's now based in Taiwan and brought his wife over here for her birthday weekend), but I'm soooo lazy about it. I can't even pretend to be ill as my plan for today is to go out and catch up on movies since I can't do anything much else.

5. Though, then again, my back aches from the being ill. Yuck. I guess that doesn't matter though, as long as I don't fall asleep during the shows?

6. I got a full tank of petrol for under $70 yesterday. WTF. That's, like, almost a 20% drop in what I USED to pay. \o/

7. I was SO remiss yesterday in posting about the concert I went for. I was catching up on some internet flailing (mainly of the Mamma Mia variety), and then I fell dead asleep. Anyways: I haven't seen Emil Chau live since I started this LJ, so you guys have NO IDEA how scary my flail over him can get. Ahem. In other words, consider this fair warning that what follows is INCREDIBLY self-indulgent and flaily, and so is best kept under a cut: WTF IS THAT AMAZING. ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I'VE EVER BEEN TO EVER )

8. Anyways, audio will be tracked. Once I get around to tracking Act II of Wicked and STOP listening to this one song over and over again, argh.

9. And then I caught up on everything I've not been reading over at Simply Streep, and AIEEE. Meryl is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly! I HOPE that they're selling both covers and she isn't just on the subscriber's copy or something, because I do NOT want cover with Twilight boy. DO NOT WANT. Must haunt bookstores over the next week. Also, these pretty much made my life: Meryl on Obama and on religion. Can I be this smart and together when I grow up, plz?

10. Man. That took me almost 1.5 hours. O_O I'm going to stop now. :P

1. POOL OF FAIL. I somehow managed to finish all my work at a perfectly respectable hour of 6.30 in the evening, and drove down to the pool all ready to, you know, actually EXERCISE again. I didn't, unfortunately, as I was informed that there was some kind of 'chemical imbalance' that meant the pool was under maintenance. BAH.

2. I wound up driving home and taking a long walk instead. (What's up with me this past couple of weeks - I can't bear the thought of actually going RUNNING. I think I'm just lazy.)

3. Good thing about walks though - and I suspect this is why I've started to prefer walks to runs - is that I can read while I'm walking. Well, technically, I SHOULDN'T, because the path is hardly well-lit at the best of times and I will either go blind or smash into something. Bah, I didn't let that stop me though. I raced through Rebel Angels, the second book of the Gemma Doyle trilogy, and actually finished the WHOLE THING FASTER THAN I EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE. OMG OMG. I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. AND I WILL, UNDER THE CUT. I'll white out the spoilers, just in case, and people might want to avoid comments if they don't want to get spoiled. Also, people who come flail with me: I haven't read book 3, though I will be correcting that SOONEST. SO NO SPOILING ME FOR BOOK 3, MMMKAY.

Rebel Angels - a twist in the tale )

4. Busy week planned ahead - family dinner tomorrow night, yoga trial on Wednesday, EVITA on Thursday, and a play and IDINA on Friday. FUNTIMES. XD At least they're GOOD plans, rather than, you know, the ones I usually make i.e., no plans so I can be back at work at a moment's notice. :P

5. BED! Before 3.30am, perhaps! Gasp!!

1. I am a lazy bugger. I woke up at... well, almost 5pm, shall we say (in my defense, I went to bed at 9am), and had all kinds of plans to run or skate or sign up for yoga classes. Suffice it to say that none of THOSE things happened. Instead:

2. I'm a big book dork and spent $130 at the Kino book sale. :D All on kids' books, because we have long ago established that I am six and therefore really grown-up. But I'm so happy with my haul! I have the entire Gemma Doyle trilogy now, since it comes so highly recommended by [info]llyfrgell, and also pretty much the whole Adventure series by Enid Blyton. Also, I had this HUGE wave of nostalgia when I spotted Anne of Green Gables on the display shelf - as part of its CENTENNIAL EDITION celebration, OMG. Then I realised I had absolutely no frickin' clue where my entire series of Anne books had gone to, and that I'd probably thrown the lot away. So I bought the full set of all eight books. O_o Pleased with my purchases, but OMG, when am I going to find the time to READ them all?!

3. I am obsessed with N2N and NEED TO STOP MAKING ICONS. OH GOD. I know this. But I can't stop! It's so addictive! *weeps*

4. I love Empire. It's the only movie magazine - UK edition - I read religiously, and it makes me happy. And dorky. Not to mention the fact that the August edition, which I've only just got around to reading, has a huge splash interview with David and Gillian. WIN. Here's my favourite bit from that interview. When asked to pick a favourite XF moment, Gillian had this to say:

You know, it all kind of gets jumbled up in my mind, but just recently, during this shoot, someone pulled David and I aside to this computer and showed us some clips, on Youtube, that fans had put together of us in various scenes. And there was an amazing amount of care and intimacy that I'd forgotten about. I mean, people always say we never kiss on the show - we kissed, like, thousands of times! There are kisses all over the place! There was a level of real intimacy between these two characters, the kind of care that you don't see very much in the real world. I missed that - and when we saw it again that day, we were totally mesmerised by it.

Ha ha, she didn't flail over Bad Blood! Which is kind of unexpected. ;) And AWWWW. For serious.

5. Monsters vs Aliens looks like awesome crack. I was intrigued by the blurb describing the film in Empire's big movie preview, and then, totally coincidentally, [info]rockcandy83 posted the (shakily filmed) trailer! AWESOME MUCH? :D I just HAD to pimp it, because it looks friggin' HILARIOUS:

Empire had this to say:
If that title doesn't hype your inner 9-year-old, there's no hope for you. A woman is hit by a meteor and grows to 49'11" - a nod to '50s B classic Attack of the 50 Ft Woman - whereupon she's conscripted into a secret government monster team and tasked with stopping an invading alien robot. Filmed for 3D and with a voice cast including Reese Witherspoon as our heroine, Hugh Laurie as a cockroach-headed scientist and Stephen Colbert as the US President ("He plays it on steroids," claims studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg), this could be a ginormous hit. "I got very inspired when the studio showed me storyboards," says Witherspoon. "It's given me an opportunity to make tall jokes for once."

Colour me excited, OMG. Hugh and Stephen? :D :D :D Plus, seriously. The trailer is on crack. LOVE.

6. I have an obsessive personality. HA HA. HANDS UP THOSE WHO DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW THAT, AND GO TO THE BACK OF THE CLASS. Anyway. I realised that once I started watching this trailer that I was sunk. I had to go to watch all the newest trailers, which I have been doing and which also means I am unlikely to go to bed anytime soon. Especially since trailer-spamming has helped me rediscover that:

7. I frickin' adore Cate Blanchett. My flail has diminished somewhat in recent months, but god. Never let it be said that I do not admire this woman in a crazy way. Only person alive who could play Katharine Hepburn - my favourite actress ever - and not make me want to dig my intestines out through my eyes. Urm, graphic randomness aside! Have a little pic-spam of her gorgeousness from her new film with Brad Pitt, which excites me greatly - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Reminds me eerily of a book I read a while back, The Confessions of Max Tivoli, as both movie and book are about a man who ages in reverse, appearing younger as he grows older, and the woman he falls in love with.

8. I am made of epic amounts of fail flail. Y/Y? ;) I need to go to bed now, even though I really can't since I'm not sleepy AT ALL, but I DO have to be at work on time for once... Bah humbug.

1. I woke up at 3pm and had cereal for lunch. I am so grown-up! :D

2. I've changed my layout! I wanted to, for a while, because the comments section on the old layout was bugging the hell out of me - grey on white, wtf?! How does this in any way facilitate comment-stalking?! But I was a lazy bum and never got around to doing anything until [info]llyfrgell mentioned that it was kinda hard on the eyes. So I decided, BAH. Let's change it. TO WIT:

Better now? ;) I have such love for the picture I used in my header. The width of the layout is not conducive to epic pic-spams, but I shall figure that out later.

3. In the spirit of lovely new things - check out my icon, and the accompanying picture of INCREDIBLE GORGEOUSNESS. Definitely brought me back to the days when all I used to do was browse through Gillian Anderson photo galleries and squeal inwardly to myself - Gillian why are you so preeeeeetty?! - yes, I was a scintillating conversationalist way back when. I cannot quite fathom that IN FIVE DAYS I will be watching TXF2. This is very, very exciting for me.

4. The lack of movies to watch this weekend has really thrown me off though. It feels wrong to not have something to see on the weekend. Bah.

5. I SHOULD go to work. I have something to clear that I should have cleared on Friday but I was lazy and went out for dinner instead. And now I have to clear it FAST tomorrow. DO NOT LIKE.

6. And I shall now go running. In theory. For a while, anyway, as I have to come back, wake my slumbering sister up and take her to town for an inordinately expensive but very yummy chicken rice dinner. Ah, lazy weekends ftw.

7. Last but certainly not least:

8. Edited to add: Uploaded the movie version of Chiquitita from Mamma Mia for [info]alex_kingston - no clue WHY this isn't included on the soundtrack, but whatever. Have at it. :)

WOOT! Julia's surprise appearance at Don't Quit Your Night Job from a couple of nights ago has been posted on the interweb! :D Which I only knew to look out for because the awesomely lucky [info]llyfrgell flailed about unexpectedly having her as a guest star that night. Mwahaha!

- Entrance @ 3:15
- Belting occurs, including the term "deep dish pie". She uses the broom as a mic at one point!
- As does ridiculously daggy dancing. (I'm stealing that word from you, Sal, it's the only one that fits!) There be shimmying, LOL.
- I think she STILL hits her notes! WTF. Even in a green party hat and with a plastic broom!!
- Only wish it were better quality so icons can be made. BAH.
- There have also been SOME photos posted, links here. Icons shall be made. ;)

FAIL. I just woke up, obviously, since I went to bed at close to 11am. I should be at dinner RIGHT NOW. But clearly flailage was more important. Off now. Shall reply to comments and such later. SIGH.

ETA: The lights just came back on. WTF. The electricity in the house - at least the lights - went off yesterday night and never came back. Now they have, like almost 15 hours later. I guess no one noticed but me, and I went to bed and didn't care. Man do I ever fail. Going to be SO late for dinner OMG!!!
